Stage & Dance Floor Sanding at Moldgreen Conservative Club, Huddersfield
We were recently called to restore a heavily worn stage and dance floor at Moldgreen Conservative Club in Huddersfield – a well-used space showing clear signs of age, wear, and patchy old lacquer. The job involved sanding back to bare wood, addressing tough traffic areas, and applying a hard-wearing lacquer suitable for ongoing footfall in a busy venue.
What Condition Was the Floor In?
The original finish had broken down in high-traffic areas, particularly at the entrance, around the vertical riser, and along the stage edge. Much of the lacquer had worn away completely, exposing bare, dirty wood and leaving a patchy, unsightly appearance. It not only looked tired but had lost its protective qualities – putting the underlying wood at risk of further damage.
Out-of-Hours Access for Minimal Disruption
As with many commercial projects, the club needed to stay operational during parts of the restoration. We worked flexibly across both open and closed hours to allow continued access for members while delivering a top-quality finish without compromise.
Our Process
The entire area – approximately 16 square metres – was carefully sanded back to bare wood using our virtually dust-free sanding system. We performed a fine sanding sequence to remove deep scratch marks and blend traffic-worn zones evenly into the body of the floor. The vertical riser and nosing were detailed by hand to ensure a consistent finish across every inch.

To protect the floor for years to come, we applied Arboritec Avenue 2K lacquer in a satin sheen – chosen for its commercial durability, clean aesthetic, and smooth feel underfoot. It gives the floor a fresh, modern appearance while maintaining a natural wood character.
